You may have stumbled upon us on meetup.com for a few reasons:
1) We are the biggest outdoor activities group in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai 2) We are the most active 3) We were the FIRST and original Trekking group on meetup and in the UAE 4) We are exclusively a trekking group; though we offer similar adventures such as climbing, caving, mountaineering and mountain biking on occasion. We're not out for general adventures, there are plenty of other groups offering that. We focus on everything 'mountain' related and therefore are able to do these things better. 5) We are NOT a budget travel agency posing as a meetup. We are a community group and we always use respected and licensed operators for our international trips. We charge you for the use of our gear and food that we will buy you for our camping/cooking/hiking adventures.
6) We offer free training sessions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to ensure that our members have the right fitness levels for our hikes.
There are reasons why we have been and continue to be successful, and many of these are the 2,000+ very interesting, active, sporty and diverse people that are a part of the group.
If you would like to become a member, you WILL need a picture that is a likeness of yourself and your profile name that is a reflection of - your real name. If you have named yourself 'coolguyUAE' you will need to write your full name in the INTRO line of your profile, something that is easily changed. if you are nervous about sharing what you look like or your real name, your request will be rejected. But you can always reapply when you are ready to reveal your true self to your fellow trekkers.
We have been an active meetup since 2011!
UAE Trekkers include all levels and all ages from beginning trekkers to aspiring mountaineers. Our bigger goal is to climb the 7 summits of the world, the tallest mountains on every continent.
Last year 2014 our group climbed three of them: Elbrus, Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua.
Luckily for us, the UAE and Oman is a great training ground with about 8 months of the year being great weather which enables us to get out nearly every weekend to explore our nearby wild playgrounds of wadis and mountains.
When you join you may think that you're just up for the easy stuff, you will be surprised how easy it is to get hooked into the sport of trekking and mountaineering, especially in this part of the world, when so many great opportunities are literally a short plane ride away.
We're not travel agents, and we're not professional mountain guides. But we do have the experience of having done every trip that we offer which has given us the chance to refine it so that its an organized and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Whether you wish to take the opportunity to pursue a goal of climbing mountains or just disconnect from civilization, you will have the experience of a lifetime with us.
Mountaineering is not a competitive sport. From Jabal Shams to Kilimanjaro, we are a team of people of many ages and from many countries working to achieve the same goal: getting to the top of the mountain together, and have a lot of fun getting there while being safe.
Are you looking for a community of people with the same interests and passions?
We offer free weekly training sessions not just as a ‘perk’ but because training together up Ski Dubai together ensures that every member is prepared for the challenge physically and mentally. It also builds your confidence and ensure that nobody has to train for the mountain entirely on their own.
By joining this group, you agree to take personal responsibility for the risks associated with hiking in these mountains. You also agree to accept the recommendations for proper equipment required before you attend a hike, as well as accepting the recommendations for water consumption and other pertinent issues.
You agree to accept advice of more experienced hikers whose goal is to ensure your safety as well as the safety of the group.
A hike is NOT just a walk outside in the mountains. The nature of these mountains here in UAE and Oman is profoundly different to those in other parts of the world. There are NO marked trails - anywhere. There are no maps. The hiking route can even change over weeks due to flooding and rains. Navigation and exploring are mandatory and - in our opinion - a big part of the fun!
So welcome to the group and hope to see you on a mountain soon!
