CREL Tech Talk: Context Aware Music Recommendation and Visualization

This talk will present a project that aims to improve music listening experience through personalized and context aware recommendation software. State of the art music recommendation systems often rely on noisy song descriptor data or simple emotion models to describe listening context. In this talk, Ivana Andjelkovic will discuss a way to categorize and visually represent music by utilizing professionally curated mood descriptors and by drawing upon existing research of music related emotions.

Ivana Andjelkovic is a PhD candidate in Media Arts & Technology program, at UC Santa Barbara. Her current research interests are in music recommendation and navigation through large music collections. With the background in computer science and information visualization, she is also developing visual interface for music discovery.

I enjoyed the talk very much. The informal format was refreshing.

Very enjoyable and thought provoking presentation. I thought there was some great group interaction digging into the problem space and solution space of music recommendation. Thank you.

Hi, I had a last minute meeting that took me away from your tech talk. Sorry. Is there a way to get Ivana's talk or feedback from the group?

There has been a room change! Tonight's event will be held in room 145 which is located on the first floor next to the elevators that are located at the entrance on Russell Drive.

I just saw Ivana's draft, this is going to be a great talk! Please tell anyone you know who might be interested in learning about how the different music recommendation system work (LastFM, Pandora, etc.) about this talk!!

As announced, it is being held at the Corad Prebys Music Center (room 231) which is right across "the street" (Russell Lane...more of a walk way than street - the map on MeetUp shows the exact location) from the Gilman Parking Garage.

After 4:30 pm, visitors can park in any spot in the garage ("A", "B", "S" or "V"), but you need to purchase a parking permit at one of the machines (they are located on every floor) and display it on your dashboard (should cost about $4...$2 an hour).

We've had some great talks, but I need attendees in order to get university support (let us use the room)!
