  • Cutlers Exchange

Come join us for the first Atlassian User Group of 2014!

We have a talk from Steve Smith from Atlassian on “Practical continuous deployment in the enterprise”. It will cover why they adopted this model for their business systems, some of challenges they encountered, and the approaches and tools they used to overcome them. We will also have some talks on Jira & Confluence with the usual time for questions & networking.

Food and beverages will be served as always, so come hang out, learn and have a beer on us!

Date: Tuesday 18th February 2014

Time: 6.00pm – 9:30pm

Location: Cutlers Exchange, 123 Houndsditch, London, EC3A 7BU.

Nearest Tube: Liverpool St or Aldgate

Food will be served during the evening, beers, tea & coffees will be served.

Our thanks also go to Atlassian for providing the food & drink for tonight, Adaptavist & Dione Technogy for helping us with talks and The Collinson Group for providing the venue. We couldn’t do this without their help.

Directions

Our meeting today is in the offices of The Collinson Group. You will need to ask at reception for the Atlassian User Group.

There are two entrances to the building, one on Houndsditch and one on Cutler Street (right next to the City Travelodge).

It will be best to use the Cutler Street Entrance if possible, see the Google Map.  The Houndsditch entrance will be closed after 18:30hrs.

To get to The Magpie after the meet, it's a short walk through Devonshire Square.  Ask us for directions on the night.

Practical continuous deployment in the enterprise

Continuous deployment is causing organisations to rethink how they build and release software. Atlassian Bamboo is rapidly adding features to help with automating deployment, but there are a lot of other practical and organisational issues that need to be addressed when adopting this development model. The Atlassian business-platforms team has been dealing with these issues over the last few months as we transition our order system to continuous deployment. This talk will cover why we adopted this model, some of challenges we encountered, and the approaches and tools we used to overcome them.

Steve Smith has worked at Atlassian for over 7 years, both as a sysadmin and a developer. Prior to that he worked on tanks and radars in the Outer Hebrides, telecoms systems in Hong Kong, and in startups in Australia. He now works out of Atlassian's Amsterdam offices, focusing on high-availability, continuous-deployment and platform migration issues.

Are other members as annoyed as I am about the new User Management that has been deployed to OnDemand sites? Much useful functionality has been lost - it is now impossible to see how many users you have, whether they are using the installation and what your license situation is. In fact annoyed is far too mild a term to describe my feelings about it!

We've updated the agenda for next week. One of things things are going to try are AUG Micro Talks This is your opportunity to be heard! 60 seconds to tell us your “elevator pitch”, what’s the latest thing you've worked on, what is your biggest problem, what’s your idea for the next best thing. After each pitch, we open to the floor for people to answer your questions or ask you a question. There are no restrictions on topic, this is decided by you!

So have a think and come tell us what you think!

I would like to know how people deal with rolling out a major version change for Confluence. I'm thinking about this from the perspective of how it affects users. What do companies do about communicating new functionality changes and process changes?
