LAUG - Oct 2013 - Confluence & Service Desk Special!

  • October 28, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • Cutlers Exchange

We've got a visitor from San Francisco for the October meet of the London Atlassian User Group. Matt Hodges, Confluence Product Marketing Manager will be in London to talk about Confluence and the latest updates around Blueprints and Confluence Answers.

We will also have David Bonilla, the Spanish & UK ambassador to give us the lastest news on Atlassian releases.

Hot on the heels of the recent release of Jira Service Desk, Valiantys are also here to give us a demo and show us how to get the best out of the new Jira add-on.  Valiantys have long been experts on using Jira as a service desk tool and bring years on experience & knowledge to the AUG.

Charles Hall from OpenBet will also show us how he's improved the navigation of spaces by creating an easy to use dynamic horizontal menu.  It combines a standard confluence macro with jQuery & CSS to transform the normal vertical layout into a horizontal one offering up to 3 levels of menus. Such menus are common in many high profile websites but hasn't been easily accessible in Confluence. Charles has also spoken at Atlassian Summit 2009 & 2010.

Please Note: We have a new venue for this meet.

Hi Charles, Thank you again for your presentation. It was really good. Just unfortunate that you couldn't be there. See you next time.

Where can we access all of the other slides?

  • David T.

For my first AUG, this was really good and beneficial. I will be back for the future events. Great to have the guys from Atlassian there giving an insight to the up and coming features in Confluence. Overall well run and good meeting some fellow admins/users. Cheers David.

Really impressed at the turnout and overall running of the AUD last night, despite the 'storm' an international crew made it - credit to Matt Cobby for pulling this together and thanks to the Collinson Group for providing such a nifty space. Great presentations from David Bonilla, Matt Hodges and Lucas Dussurget bringing us up to speed with JSD, blueprints, questions, SLAs, HipChat and more with Matt Cobby making a good job of proxy-presenting for Charles Hall on creating horizontal menus in Confluence. See you next time!

There are n trains in and out if London from Cambridge! The network led to me, am heading back to my office. Have fun, send the slides! :-) cheers.

    October 28, 2013

    • Matthew C.

Cheers, Mick. I was just doing some checking and the train companies aren't putting many trains on. You certainly can't get from Cambridge to London by train. Shame. Oh well, we'll post slides asap

I was following them on their website and Twitter. Both said there was a limited service. Which means there must be some trains, but there were none and never had been any! :) Ah well, next time. Please say hello to Matt for me.

  • Dan H.

I've made it to our Old Street offices (no idea if I can make it back!) but you'll see me and Jamie later.

At Gradle exchange but now it won't finish until 8.30 so won't be able to make it.

    Hi folks,

Given the challenges with getting to the centre of London I have looked at providing the option for people to also join via gotomeeting. If you require connection details can you please send me a personal message and I will provide the details. Obviously this cannot guarantee the same level of engagement as face-face but we will do our best to capture questions and answers via it as well as showing the presentations.

I managed to make it into the office eventually, after a bit of a 'mare in Reading this morning, so I should be with you guys tonight.

I'm bailing I'm afraid. Trains from Nottingham to London are cancelled until tomorrow.

    October 28, 2013

boooo! Thanks for letting us know, maybe next time. Until then, have a good one!

      October 28, 2013

Excellent news! Thanks for letting us know.
All the trains from Cambridge to London are cancelled up to 1200 today. I'm hoping that by 1600 they'll be back 'on line' (I know, hilarious...). If so, I'll see you later. Are both David and Matt still going?
    Cheers.

    October 28, 2013

    • Matthew C.

I'm hoping the trains will come back as expected but a few of the companies seem to have given up for today. David flies in later this afternoon so won't know until later. Matt has said he's be there "bells and whistles on".

Northampton > Euston trains are in the same position. They've just announced two trains running the opposite way, but hopefully they'll be running in the next few hours.

      October 28, 2013

  • Matthew C.

Well, if you can make it into London, then it seems that most of us have survived the storm. There are some tube delays and some streets are closed but for the most part, it looks like we are still on for tonight. Looking forward to it & seeing you all there!

    October 28, 2013

  • Pierre L.

Sorry can no longer make tonight

    October 28, 2013

    • Matthew C.

Hi Pierre, Thanks for letting us know. Maybe see you next time.

The weather is expected to be pretty foul overnight - check the weather before you travel and stay safe!

    October 27, 2013

    • Matthew C.

Cheers, Dan. If there are any changes to plans, we'll let you all know ASAP. We're currently re-confirming all the arrangements.

I've a question for you: can you confirm that Matt Hodges is going to talk Confluence Answers, opposed to the new Questions plugin?
I'm just checking to make sure I research the right things before next week. TIA.

Hi mick, I will confirm tomorrow and get back you, it's a bit of a guess as I haven't seen the presentation yet ;-)

Superb, well done Matt, this looks like it will be very valuable! I'm not 100% sure that I will make it, but I shall certainly try. Also, good news on the venue change: the pub was convenient but also noisy. Cheers.
