Accessibility Hackathon

Use your coding and design skills to help improve the lives of people with various disabilities. Details and sign-up at http://accessibilityhack.com/

We’re providing an event for programmers, designers and disability groups to work with disability charities to design apps, tools and utilities that could be adopted for use by disabled communities. The charities include Help for Heroes, RNIB, Age UK, Action on Hearing Loss, Macmillan Cancer Support, Alzheimer’s Society. Tech reps from these groups will brief you on areas of practical needs to help you create tools that are useful, usable and needed by disabled communities.

Bringing Leap Motion --> keen to develop an alternative UI for people with constrained movements... Email me: [masked]

I was thinking about the use case when someone has very constrained movements and cannot reach touchscreen (they say iPads are very A11Y-friendly devices).

Another brainwave was regarding online .GOV / online forms. Sooner or later all the papers will be filled online and we don't want to keep elderly (less abled) away from accessing services. I was thinking about plugin / bookmarklet / extension that will a) inject into website b) detect forms c) allow user to navigate through forms using LeapMotion or any other technology.

Presumably it would be client side as I cannot see webmasters updating sites from decade ago.

*** @James --> sent you message on LinkedIn. I'm here here to watch and learn, now just some preparation as it cannot harm. Installing latest SDK: https://developer.leap...

Doing swipe or wave gestures is pretty easy with the LEAP Motion (one of my first projects was doing that). Also consider that some phones and tablets - like the Qualcomm developer editions - can detect objects moving over the front-facing camera, so you could just wave your hand over the front of the phone in a certain direction to switch field.
