IDEATION::Urban Intervention crowd-sourced by you!

URBAN SPACEship and Neighborland are teaming up to gather solutions from YOU and implement a project. We want to hear your ideas: What innovative project would you implement that would encourage social interactions in public space in your neighborhood (or any other)?

We have up to $1,000 available to make something happen.

POST YOUR IDEA HERE.

The top ideas will be discussed at this next URBAN SPACEship MeetUp, to be held on Wednesday, February 20th. Together, the group will debate and choose a project to be implemented in mid-March.

Here is how this will work:

- Ideas will be submitted over a 3-week period, from now until February 20th. Post your idea here, and share it with your family, friends, colleagues and community members. Encourage them to "me too" your idea and discuss it on the site.

- URBAN SPACEship and Neighborland will host a MeetUp where the top ideas will be discussed, and a favorite chosen (based on popularity and feasibility).

- We will then work together to identify and gather materials and support to make your project happen.

A few guidelines:

- Be bold.

- Be as specific as possible, and convey the details of your idea as clearly as possible.

- Include any images, photos, drawings, renderings, or other visuals that would help to communicate your idea.

- Have fun!

Thanks everyone for taking part in this project, it was definitely an engaging and productive discussion yesterday, and I'm looking forward to meeting next week to choose a project and begin planning! Invite is going to be sent out shortly for next week's follow-up meeting: Wednesday, Feb. 27th @ 6:30pm @ OpenPlans (148 Lafayette). Mark your calendars!

The meeting was a great beginning and it was nice to hash out ideas and collaborate. Next week it seems we need to ground those ideas and start thinking implementation, audience, and purpose.

Not that great. I don't see the point of this meetup. Nothing really happens.

You give up to early grasshopper, community engagement does not happen at the flick of a magical wand.

I will be there tomorrow! I suggested the Gowanus Canal Cleanup because 35 other people on Neighborland said they wanted it. Can we translate people wanting something on Neighborland to REAL ACTION?? Personally, I think we should not rush this, but pick a project ONLY if there are enough people on the ground to carry it out.

Please note that the venue has been changed to the Municipal Art Society (MAS) - it's only 2 blocks away from the original spot, so you shouldn't need to change any travel routes!

Alas, gotta be home in role of Mom that night. Still welcome all to help us out at Tribeca Trust with its ATT planning process at 33 Thomas.

Here are the ideas posted so far for the urban space project. Support any of these, or share your own. Remember, you can post your idea for any neighborhood in NYC, here:
    https://neighborland.com/questions/urbanspaceship/about

    - to make public spaces useable both night and day by installing interactive light exhibits.
    - daily music and dance performances in underutilized plazas and streets.
    - to re-imagine the big plaza around the brutalist ATT building at 33 Thomas St in Manhattan.
    - learning seminars in public spaces.
    - a kids’ bike path in paved empty spaces.
    - open wi-fi and inviting public spaces in underutilized squares and park areas in Manhattan.
    - to make Stuyvesant Town into a huge community P-Patch.
    - to start a Gowanus Canal Cleanup Committee in Brooklyn.
