Let's get neighborly!
For Neighborday this Saturday, we're going to be creating a colorful public space by the Broadway branch of the Queens Library in Astoria, and address an area that suffers from a lack of public space, while promoting the library as a community space and encouraging neighborly interactions.
Through a DIY workshop, we'll be creating table, chairs and trees using cardboard, to engage the community in creating their ideal space through art. We'll mark the space and the sidewalk area using spray chalk and let people take part in creating the space by a paint-by-numbers type drawing.
There will be a photo booth, and we'll learn about the neighborhood by letting people express what they like about it, and discover what they would like to see/do in their public space.
We'd attract people to the area by creating symbols using stencils to designate the library area as a community space.
Feel free to bring an instrument, a game, a snack, or anything else and let's get neighborly!
Big thank you to Neighborland for sponsoring us.
