Subject: THURSDAY: Take action in Las Vegas to stop gun violence
Date: January 14,[masked]:08:03 PM PST
Dear MoveOn member,
One month ago this morning, people in Las Vegas woke up to the horrific news of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT.
The nation mourned, and MoveOn members helped organize hundreds of candlelight vigils the night after the shootings to call for an end to gun violence. That night, we collectively said, "This is enough. This time it's different."
That's why on Thursday, MoveOn members are planning more than 230 Community Committee Against Gun Violence gatherings, including one hosted by a fellow MoveOn member near you in Las Vegas at 6:00 PM—to come up with a local plan for action to stop gun violence.
If you're tired of gun violence tearing apart the fabric of communities across the country, come to Thursday's meeting and help plan a path forward in your area.
Can you make it Thursday?
The NRA is incredibly well-organized and has blocked progress on gun violence prevention for years. But right now there's an opening—after Sandy Hook and after election losses by most of the NRA-backed Congressional candidates1—for us to counter their efforts and keep dangerous guns off the streets and out of dangerous hands.
Some meetings will result in rallies against gun violence, or calls on local elected officials to take action. Here are two examples of actions already in progress:
Bring whatever ideas for action to reduce gun violence that you have to your local Community Committee. Will you attend Thursday's Community Committee Against Gun Violence activity in Las Vegas?
This time, in the wake of Newtown and the more than 800 people killed by guns in the last month,4 we can't give up the fight against gun violence.
Thanks for all you do.
