UUASC has been tracking the birth and evolution of "cloud computing" starting with the UNIX Virtualization Roundtable in 2007, followed by talks on customizing EC2 AMIs, and a presentation of a private cloud deployment from a local shop.

For this month's presentation Adrian Otto will introduce Openstack, a hot new open source software for running your own cloud. Learn about what Openstack is, where it came from, and what makes it special. If you plan to run your own private cloud, you need to know about Openstack.

Adrian is a Senior Technical Strategist and Architect at Rackspace and has worked over the past 5 years to help design and scale Rackpsace Cloud services, including the largest Windows/.NET and Linux/PHP PaaS is the world with over 400,000 hosted applications, and over 500 Billion web requests each year.

Great overview of OpenStack. Adrian did a good job of keeping the discussion on topic.

Great to hear the history of OpenStack. Also appreciated the perspective on what makes an "open" project successful i.e. open source, open development, open design, open community...I think I got that right. It was beneficial to see this opinion presented with examples, e.g. OpenStack versus Solaris

Adrian gave a great presentation on a project that will have a major effect on UNIX/Linux community for years to come. I was also impressed by his detailed knowledge and ability to handle a 45 minute Q&A session from an interested audience.
