June Meetup—Gone Girl

  • On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

Is anyone still meeting this evening? I'm all for it. Loved the book, page-turner but intelligent page-turner

I originally suggested Gone Girl (reading it now and it's really good!) but it looks like I'll be away on a business trip June 30th. My next books after Gone Girl are Wild, Those Who Saved Us & Defending Jacob.

I took myself out of this book meeting, as for the life of me I can't understand why this book is on the bestseller list for so long. I thought the writing was simple and the story line a big bore. So best someone who loved it can take my place.
    I'll be at the next!

Just finished the book over the weekend and loved it!!! It was like watching a good episode of Law and Order, terrific escapism. Unfortunately can't make the meeting this month but will see you at the next one.

I am going to drop out of this one. There is no way I will be able to read the book in time! I am actually in an amateur play that opens in 10 days. What was I thinking? See you next time!

    • Lucy

Hi Shaun, this is going to be an informal meetup, so you're welcome to come even if you don't read the book! Break a leg in your play, and see you next time if you' can't make it.

I just signed up for the group, but I would be quite happy to just get together for a meet and greet type of thing on June 30. I've read Gone Girl already (listened to it, actually), but would be quite happy to re-read it for the next meeting. I went to BEA today and got some ARCs that look really promising, depending on what the the rest of you are interested in.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
