July Meetup — discuss Creativity, Inc. & watch Pixar Shorts

  • Jul 29, 2014 · 6:30 PM

For our July Meet Up we will be discussing Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration and watching some Pixar short films.

Creativity, Inc. is a book for managers who want to lead their employees to new heights, a manual for anyone who strives for originality, and the first-ever, all-access trip into the nerve center of Pixar Animation—into the meetings, postmortems, and “Braintrust” sessions where some of the most successful films in history are made. It is, at heart, a book about how to build a creative culture—but it is also, as Pixar co-founder and president Ed Catmull writes, “an expression of the ideas that I believe make the best in us possible.”

The $10 fee goes towards food, drink and administrative costs.

Tim Ferris ("Four Hour Work Week") interviews Ed Catmull. Sounds interesting.

Great to see everyone last night. Here is more information on Waking Sleeping Beauty documentary that I mentioned last night. For anyone interested in learning more about the "bad years" at Disney animation this is a great watch:

Lauren! Great meeting you last night! I did my senior thesis on the purification of fairy tales over the years. Obviously Disney factored in considerably! Will definitely check out documentary. Thanks for posting!

My first time at this meetup. I had a very enjoyable time. The venue was awesome and the idea of watching pixar shorts together was a great one. Thanks to the organizers and to Michelle for sponsoring the space.

Someone mentioned "lack of feedback on website", and Virgin Airlines tries to tackle on this:

Yeah I'm also 72% (thanks, kindle!) the way through. It's really fun to read. I'm also looking foward to discussing it, and hoping I'll be in town whenever the date is set!
