UX Orlando: the Orlando User Experience and Usability Group Message Board › UXorlando meets on April 19th.
I just wanted to confirm that we are still meeting on April 19th.
We are still meeting in Altamonte Springs at the Panera Bread next to the Walmart.
For this meeting, I'd like to discuss portfolios. If you could bring a sample of your portfolio, if you have one. It's fine to have it online. We can access it on my laptop.
Be prepared to briefly talk about why you chose what you did to include in your portfolio and how you would use it as a tool for getting a job or a freelance gig. Maybe even share what you'd like to improve about your portfolio and why. Talk about how your organized the portfolio. What you want the person looking at it to be compelled to do? What do you want them to think about you?
If you don't have a portfolio, maybe you can tell us why you don't think it's needed. I have a friend who doesn't have a portfolio and says she's NEVER been asked for one, yet she very much in demand. So, portfolios clearly aren't must haves for everyone.
Don't be afraid, this discussion will be very informal and hopefully, we will learn a lot from each other and our portfolios will be better for it!
Oh, if any developers are coming or any startups, I'd love to hear your thoughts on portfolios. What do you show clients? Are portfolios helpful in your world?
If you have any questions, please email or find me on Twitter @eddiejams
Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you on the 19th.
