Getting the Right Choice

This will be a discussion on the way we can influence people to make choices that would be for their benefit.

How do you get people to give you great reviews or promote your product via social media.

The solution isn't simple, but looking at the psychological principles behind persuasion will help.   With anything the devil here is in the detail.

Come join us for the first UX Perth for 2014.

I've also asked for something to be done about some better signage so that people who miss the start of the session don't get lost on the way to the room. Base building services have said that if we have another event they will give us priority for a podium room instead (where we had the meetup with Will Evans), and that they will look at doing some better signage.

I wish there was more I could do about this. Even though the building is called Bankwest Place, we don't actually own the building. It is serviced by a concierge-type company we don't have control over, and we aren't allowed to put up any of our own signage etc. This was part of the reason I was in the lobby before 5:30; to point people in the right direction.

All I can do is to continue to provide feedback to the company who manages the building and hope they can resolve some of these issues.

Just thought about a topic for a future UX Meetup: Personas - how to make them and how to use them.

I know it is a bit basic. I recently made some (with a team of one) for a brainstorm but don't know what to do with them now...

It was a great session, thank you Gary - you are absolutely right in that if I had read some of the seed material, it would have resulted in more interaction and in turn better value for all... i was a first timer and will definitely be back whenever possible. Many thanks once again..

Carl Like I said at the beginning this topic, you have to do some work and think about the application of the material, its not just a matter of applying A and B to get C. Even if you had examples they would still need user research and trials to see if they worked for your products. Also I get the impression that people want a free education session where someone tells all about the topic. Giving all the information needed with very little input from the attendee. I strongly suggest that people read a little about the topic, so they can come along and discuss it. The point of UX Perth is not to be a free UX design education service. If you are prepared to find time to read and learn in the UX field, you will be left behind very quickly.

      Hi Gary,

A fair enough point to make about the group - perhaps we can list blog posts/articles as well as books for future topics?

FYI I've been following up on the rude interruption by the "film director" about 10 minutes in to our session. I can confirm he was with another other conference and not with Bankwest (thankfully).
Base building services (also not Bankwest) are in the process of dealing with a number of other complaints about the conference in question via appropriate channels. I've added our incident to this list of complaints.
I have confidence they will be dealt with appropriately, and that steps are being taken to prevent incidents like that happening again.

Really disappointed to miss this. My wife had a minor op and came home mid-afternoon a lot more sorry and in pain than she had expected, so didn't feel I could leave. :-(

Guilty as charged. But will buy this book ;)

Looking forward to the User Testing session - I know Cat's keen to contribute to that!

It was hard to extract the lessons from the session. Would have liked more lessons from the book, and interaction from the floor.

Thanks Gary, very engaging, interesting & passionate presenter. Unfortunately I could only attend 1st hour (what is the usual length for this groups meetups?), but loved it. Will be reading the first book.

I am sorry I cannot attend, too, same problem with work plus I work SOR which makes it harder to be in the city at that time. Hopefully I can make it another time :(
