The Gamification of the interfaces around us is starting to become common place.  But this amazingly simple technique can go so wrong.

Gamification is not just throwing a badge, leaderboard and a few levels onto an app. It's about planning context and strategy.  Getting it right is an art.

The seed book for is month is Gamification by Design By Gabe Zichermann, it's available on O'reilly, Amazon (in kindle format), and Book Depository.

There is also a good realistic talk on Gamification at UX Australia 2011.

And there is a book website too - Gamificationu

    Unfortunately doesn't do ebooks.

For the "Gamification by Design" ebook:

Kindle Store US$10 in Kindle Proprietary DRM format (and it's not easy to tell how many devices it is licensed for)

O'Reilly Shop US$20 in DAISY, ePub, Mobi (for Kindle), and PDF form (unlimited devices I guess)

So Amazon cheaper but limited design and proprietary format. O'Reilley has multiple formats (and unlimited devices I guess) but twice as expensive.

    Happy shopping!

For the "Gamification by Design" book check out this link:

Currently the book is $3 cheaper from AbeBooks AU$19 (great service I have used and they may also have good condition used copies for less) than Book Depository UK (AU$22), and Amazon US AU$25, and spare a thought for Angus & Robertson at AU$36, Dymocks, AU$41 and Booktopia. which comes in tops at AU$43. All prices include postage.
