Forms, Forms, Forms everybody loves Forms!

Forms are the heart of most online or complex human computer interactions.   And yet so many times they are done very badly with no consideration for the user experience at all.

This has to change.

Leading off with a presentation of best practice, this discussion will demonstrate the ways to build usable forms that enhance a great UX.  Be this for enterprise to mobile platform.

If you design or develop forms you need to attend, even if you think you know it all.

Seed books for those interested in reading around the topic (not a requirement to attend)

Any chance of getting a copy of that forms presentation?

Magnus - no issue which one.

Its the one with 3 options of designing forms, where label text is aligned left or right on the same line as the field and then you have a label on one line and the field on the next.

I introduced UX Perth Meetup to a colleague but she gave up registering because the Meetup sign-up form had 5 mandatory fields (including uploading of an image).

Coincidence that making forms simpler was last night's topic? Gary, are all the sign-up questions really necessary?

;) yes and we DO appreciate what you do Gary - you can contact me separately about the home loan ;)

It's too late. The SEO guys have infiltrated. Would you like me to make you #1 on Google Gary?

Great session. Thanks to Precedent and Gary. Is this going to be the new venue for a while now?

    December 11, 2012

I hope so, but that really depends on numbers, and sponsors, ideally I'ld like to rotate the venue. Sticking with a similar format or networking, mini presentation with discussion.

Yes Chris I would like to move UX Perth out of the pub to enhance the discussion and facilitate a greater knowledge transfer, lets talk.

Was good to learn a bit more about forms. I still don't have a workable solution to how to replace handwritten signatures when transferring paper to online forms.

Good times! Thanks to Gary and Precedent.
Here's the totally inappropriate password strength indicator I mentioned.

Loved the conversational style of the presentation & afterwards. Also, the heckling :) Time was flying, reckon we easily could've kept going for another while.

Exciting meetup! Fantastic atmosphere with plenty of debate on issues everyone could relate to... Hats off to Gary for a great presentation.

Are there a plan to go out for dinner for this meeting? I notice the longer timeslot but couldn't see any details about dinner ... It's helpful to know for planning etc.

Also is there any information on parking at this location at that time of night? Will parking be easy to find (street-side or parking lot) or is public transport a better idea?

    Thanks to Precedent for hosting.

    Cheers,
    Ashley.

There are no plans to go for dinner afterward at this stage

So is the meeting really for three hours? From 5:30pm to 8:30pm? Or will the meeting proper probably be over by 7pm-ish?

      December 10, 2012

  • Sean G.

    Hi all,

    Yes there is parking nearby:

Roe street and the Library are the two popular parking places

There is street parking, you would be lucky to park right outside… but not sure of the limit/cost for that time of day (might have a look a bit later).

Of course there is public transport….

I will leave Gary to comment on the meal – I will try to get hold of beverages and snacks for the evening

The office is above the ANZ bank, I will have someone (maybe me) welcoming people and getting them up the lift as you need a security card part 5:15pm

@alfred – I am sure we can have a sticky role for names too..

    December 10, 2012

  • Alfred L.

I would appreciate name tags (even if they were write our own sticky labels).
