Discussing "Design is a Job" by Monteiro

For our August meeting we will be discussing Design is a Job by Mike Monteiro. Thanks to Brian for the suggestion!

Artisan Talent, a creative staffing agency in the Loop, has offered to host us this month (and provide some food!). A brief poll at our July meeting indicated that no one had any problem with this as a meeting place for August. If you'd like to voice an opinion about future meeting places (and ideally suggest one ;), please get in touch with me.

"Co-founder of Mule Design and raconteur Mike Monteiro wants to help you do your job better. From contracts to selling design, from working with clients to working with each other, this brief book is packed with knowledge you can’t afford not to know."

Please remember that you can come to the meeting even if you haven't read the book. Hope to see you soon!

Please, everyone, keep in mind that A Book Apart, like Rosenfeld Media, is a comparatively small publishing concern -- they're not Random House. We're not talking about huge profits for the company or the authors. And while discounts are swell, $18 for a book -- and $9 for an eBook -- are INCREDIBLY affordable prices when compared to other publishers of UX books. Let's thank Jeongmin for taking the initiative to get UX Book Club Chicago a discount for this book, and be grateful for that.

Hi all, A Book Apart is generously giving us a 20% discount for "Design is a Job". Please use the discount code UXCHICAGO20!

No problem--hopefully someone else can take advantage of the deal too. I think it would make a great gift... ;)

Thanks Jenny! Will they give us discounts for any other of their books?

Hi Jenny, is there any chance they'll give a discount retroactively? I bought the book a week or so ago, before you announced the discount. Let me know who I can get in touch with. Thanks!

Hi Mark, I'm not sure but would guess not, since they're a small publisher. I e-mailed [masked], so you could try there. Good luck!

Also, ABA will give us bulk discounts if we order ten or more books (any title), so please let me know at the meetup if you're interested!

Hi Gemma, have we contacted A Book Apart about giving us a book club discount? Their website's FAQ section says to contact them at [masked]... :)

I second this! I hope they will give us a discount. After reading through a bit of Monteiro's book I want all of the others.

This Montiero guy is a hoot! If you like to have an author's voice in your head, you can watch / listen to the man in a number of ways.
