7 Signs You’re Not A UX Designer Yet - Open Discussion

Join us for an interactive talk about defining the UX design profession and how to become a UX designer based on Emil Lamprecht’s internationally acclaimed article 7 Signs This Person Isn’t Actually A UX Designer published by UX Mastery on 08.07.14.

To continue the debate we’ve invited the following UX professionals to lead a discussion about what it takes to become a UX Designer and whether you really have to fake it to make it:

Danielle Reid, Co-founder of Capsule.fm & mentor at Startupbootcamp

Christian Drehkopf, Head of Mobile at Zalando SE, Founder of UX4S - User Experience for Startups & mentor at Startupbootcamp & Startup Institute

Emil Lamprecht, CMO & Creative Director of CareerFoundry

We want to hear your views so we’ve made this discussion open to the audience.

UX Designer is still a relatively new profession, and one that is still being defined.  Emil suggests it is an often misinterpreted role and that ‘User Experience Designer’ is becoming one of the most abused titles in the tech scene.  Whether you agree or disagree, come down to Betahaus for a few free beers and let us know what you think!

We’ll also invite 5 UX Designers to stand up and introduce themselves to the crowd after the talk.

Drinks will be sponsored by CareerFoundry!

Drinks from 7:30pm

Hi - a little off topic maybe - but can anyone recommend a usability lab for hire in Berlin? Also any freelance UX researchers out there with experience of 1:1 lab interviewing / note taking from interviews?

    Thanks

Hey Guys. Wondering how we can do these events better next time. Let me know what you thought of this and what you'd like to see improved, or what type of event formats you'd like as we continue the series.

    Thanks!

I would love to see a round table thing... A discussion involving many professionals rather than just an interview. Discuss some hot topic in UX and perhaps draw some conclusions.
I also think it would be really cool to do something like a cross-education thing, where people can teach each other techniques or methods they learned about.

Hi! I'm trying to start to introduce my nose in UX. I'm reading a lot but with out any experience so sometimes is like nothing. I'm also looking for a job but everybody want an expert in UX. So my concern is if you (ux experts) can give some tips (or what ever you like to call it) for people that have no experience. I think It would be great that ones that are working on UX can be mentors or show in real life how this all process works. I don't know, I would love to see how is it. Before being a mentor, you have to be junior... Oder? We'll is just an idea...

Any UX practioners who have thoughts on "UX for Social Good" and 5 mins to spare would really be helpful for my short survey on the topic: svy.mk/1gYvXih Cheers!

I really enjoyed the discussion, looking forward to the next one! Some people were asking for resources on UX, check out http://hackdesign.org which is a really comprehensive course on UX and design in general. Also, 'Making it Right' by Rian van der Merwe is a great book, and so is his blog at http://www.elezea.com

Hey guys, if you want to be one of the 5 people who gets up and introduces themselves to the crowd, let me know here, and as you come into the event tomorrow. First come first serve.

As an open discussion however, we'll be passing the mics around and your questions or comments will be much appreciated. If there is something about this debate over the UX discipline you want to get a discussion going with, make sure your notes are ready?

Finally, if you have questions you would like our panel to think about address in the early part of the talk, leave your comment here and I'll add it to the list.

Thanks so much for your contributions, and I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night!!!

I am constantly wondering about the role UX could play for Social Good rather than just being something that makes rich companies richer.

I set up a quick (5 minutes max.) survey on the topic and would appreciate everybody's input: http://svy.mk/1gYvXih
