January has been a big month here at the LA Usability Professionals' Association, and we have some great news to share with you.
First, I was elected Director of North America for UPA International earlier this month! I am very excited about the opportunity that this position offers me to raise the profile of our UPA chapters out West, and to offer a higher level of responsiveness and support to UPA members and chapters throughout North America.
Given this huge increase in responsibility, I am stepping down as President of LA UPA. Alexis Antonelli Morris, our Vice President, has taken over the reins and is now our acting President. Please thank Alexis for her tireless devotion to LA UPA and offer her your support as we launch another year of great events, building on the success of last year's Ethnographic Research, Eye Tracking and World Usability Day/Education programs. Alexis and our Treasurer, Mickey Way, will be announcing plans for new officer elections and this year's programs in the coming weeks.
Finally, this year's UPA International conference will be held at the M Resort in Henderson Nevada June 5 - 7 (10 minutes south of the Las Vegas strip). Early registration opens January 30, 2012. Mark your calendar now, as this year only the first 200 people to register will get the coveted "early bird discount" that saves you $100. Note that you also get $200 off registration if you are a UPA member (which costs only $100), so become a member and register early for an incredibly sweet deal on one of the world's leading UX conferences! Visit for a sneak peek at this year's program.
Don't hesitate to reach out to Alexis, Mickey or me if you're interested in running for office or would just like to get more involved in planning this year's LA UPA events.
Best always,
Kathryn Campbell
