Re: [ia-69] UPA is now UXPA!
This is very exciting news. I'm looking forward to all of the new initiatives that will go along with the change. Also, the Shanghai event sounds fantastic!

Dear LA UPA Meetup members:
This morning the UPA International made a very exciting
announcement: we are changing our name to UXPA, the User Experience
I had the opportunity over last weekend to meet with chapter
leaders from all over the world, and reaction to the change has been extremely
positive. The UPA was always intended to be about “Big U Usability,” meaning
the entire scope of user-centered design. However, over time “usability” has
come to be interpreted far more narrowly, as meaning only evaluative usability
research. The encompassing term that stands for who we really are is now UX,
and we want to make it clear to all UX practitioners that they will find a
community of professionals dedicated to creating world class user experiences
at the UXPA.
A few other announcements:
- As part of this change, UXPA is bringing back
special interest groups, or SIGS, and welcomes your input on any SIGs that you
would like to see formed.
- UXPA has created a new board position dedicated
to chapter outreach and support.
- Next year there will be two UXPA conferences,
one in Washington DC and one in Shanghai, to further our goal to be a truly
international professional organization for UX practitioners.
The new UXPA website is “coming soon,” and will be announced here
first! In the meantime, stay in touch on our Meetup site. We welcome your feedback.
