The American Funds Digital team is working on exciting projects supporting a broad range of audiences across web, email, mobile and social media. Reaching our customers and serving their needs through compelling digital solutions is a critical imperative that is supported throughout the organization with a broad commitment of resources and recognition for our efforts.
The Usability Research Analyst will play a key role within the American Funds e-business team. This role will be a steward for user insights and an owner of the associated processes to enhance understanding of digital audiences.
•Define and implement consistent research processes for various types of user research
•Perform or facilitate research tasks such as study design, screener development, instrument development, interview facilitation, discussion facilitation, etc.
•Provide strategic insights and customer-centric recommendations to digital product and user experience teams
•Synthesize findings across research efforts and communicate trends
•Lead efforts to enhance process, techniques, toolsets and capabilities
•Manage user panels for dedicated digital research needs
•Coordinate and/or facilitate internal stakeholder interviews for strategic initiatives
•Diversify the range of research approaches to be used including lab usability testing, remote usability testing, eye-tracking, online surveys, etc.
•Be on the cutting edge of research practices and build relationships with specialized external vendors/consultants
Hiring Criteria Skills/Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, relevant advanced education a plus
•Degree in a qualitative research-related field such as Cognitive Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Experimental Design or Human Factors preferred
•At least three years of work experience in a digital user research role with use of techniques in qualitative research, including formal and informal usability testing, ethnographic research and contextual inquiry
•Hands-on experience executing user experience research (qualitative and quantitative)
•User research experience must include an established, heavily trafficked, consumer facing web site or equivalent combination of education and experience
•Proven ability to be a contributing member of a cross-functional team and ability inspire team confidence in and respect for the contributions of research to enhance product capabilities and user experience
•Basic understanding of best practices in user research, web design and user interface/information architecture conventions
•Experience with techniques in quantitative research, including survey construction, understanding results of website analytics and multivariate analysis, etc.
•Strong knowledge of task and use-case analysis, heuristic analysis, and user personas
•Understanding of online design, marketing and advertising
•Good understanding of the benefits and constraints of current Internet technologies, ability to interpret user experience design artifacts
•Excellent communication skills and the ability to produce coherent and informative research deliverables
•Good facilitation skills and the ability to lead discussion groups
•Financial services web experience a plus
