The Noun Project: Creating, Sharing and Celebrating the World's Visual Language

The Noun Project is building a global visual language that everyone can understand. Their goal is to enable users to visually communicate anything to anyone by creating a universal language of symbols. Humans have been using symbols to communicate for over 17,000 years because they are the one language everyone can understand. Symbols can transcend cultural and language barriers and deliver concise information effortlessly and instantaneously.

UX Speakeasy Puts the UX in The Noun Project

Our resident Graphic Facilitator, Jeannel King will be leading us in a group activity to create UX-related symbols to submit to The Noun Project. This will be an interactive and creative activity but you don't have to be an artist to join. Squiggly lines, circles, boxes...as Jeannel says "What you draw is good enough".

More information on The Noun Project can be found here: http://thenounproject.com/

Societe focuses specifically on IPA’s, Belgian inspired brews, and wine-barrel aged sours handcrafted on a 20 barrel brewhouse.

I came across an article about Chineasy (www.chineasy.org) in the Financial Times yesterday and I was fascinated about the lateral thinking applied to make mandarin characters easy to learn. Since mandarin is a contextual language, it only makes sense to learn the written form with visual aids. The creator of Chineasy has managed to do it rather nicely. Thought this may be of interest to the UX folks in the group especially since we experimented with the Noun project recently.

Sadly, this was my last Speakeasy for the foreseeable future - I'm back to Indiana in a week. Good chatting with you folks! These meetups have been a highlight of my San Diego experience. Hopefully I'll make it back sometime in later days.

Once again we have a wait list so the dreaded Ohme Blacklist is in effect: If you are a No Show you will automatically be wait listed for future events

Please keep your RSVP up to date and, if you are no longer able to attend, be sure and change your RSVP to "No" so people on the waitlist can go.
