Exciting news! Following our success in the Montrose Christmas Parade, I have been approached by the organizers of La Canada Flintridge's Fiesta Days to have us do a seated show as part of their festivities!
Fiesta Days is a wonderful community celebration taking place over Memorial Day weekend. You can read all about it here: http://www.lacanadaflintridge.com/events-page.html.
They would like to have us do a 30-40 minute performance at 7:00pm on Saturday night, May 24, in front of the gazebo at Memorial Park. Our performance will be followed by the outdoor screening of Frozen (the sing-along version - you and your friends & families are more than welcome to stay for that as well, I plan to!).
They will provide chairs and amplification (a standing vocal mic and a few scattered seated level mics) - we can bring our own music stands.
My vision for this should follow nicely from what we've been practicing already at our monthly jams; I'll put together a set list soon (suggestions are welcome, just keep in mind it's a family event so we want to stay mainstream and All-American.) We will mostly play & sing together, seated in a wide semi-circle so we can keep in visual time with one another.
I'd love a couple of players who feel vocally brave to volunteer to sing the lead in a song of your choosing - the rest of us will be your "backing orchestra" and play along, perhaps sing harmony on the chorus, etc. I'm also thinking of throwing a couple of good old banjolele tunes in there and have a banjolele set for those of us who have them.
Rehearsal-wise, we will work on these tunes at the next two Montrose Elbow Room jams (4/19 & 5/17). I definitely want us to have a final formal rehearsal the week leading up to the concert, perhaps a weeknight evening, but we can discuss this as we get closer and decide based on everyone's availability. Good news is, we will have our music in front of us, so while we should nevertheless be familiar enough to "perform" without staring at our music, we won't have to memorize this time!
Please let me know right away if you are interested! Previous participation in the parade is not at all necessary, but I would like to have us wear Hawaiian shirts (or Hawaiian print dresses for the ladies) so we match, so please try and track one down if you don't have this item in your ukulele wardrobe (Ebay has lots.)
Looking forward to performing with you all again, in a much WARMER setting!
