First class in the Autumn beginners lessons

Hello Ukesters!

I am happy to announce the Autumn series of Ukulele lessons for beginners, starting 11 April.

This course is designed for people who would like to play the ukulele, but don’t know where to start. This easy paced program consists of five lessons which will guide you through all the basics of the ukulele – how to tune the strings, most frequently used chords, strumming techniques and more. The one and a half hour lessons are sequential, so there will need to be some commitment to attend all five sessions. By the end of the course you should be able to confidently play dozens of songs.

The course is led by Michael Rosenberg, a qualified teacher with many years of guitar and ukulele experience.

The other lessons will be held on Thursday evenings, 9 May, 23 May, 30 May & 13 June.

Please make sure you RSVP on the web site to ensure a place for yourself.

If you do not have a ukulele, please let me know. Club songbooks can also be purchased at the lessons for $15 and contain 180 easy to follow songs with chord diagrams.

Thanks Michael- I had heaps of fun at the first class and feel like I learnt a lot. Embarassingly I think my uke was tuned to the wrong chords for half the class though!

Sorry i wasnt able to make it last night...who knew public transport was kinda dodgy? lol I'm thinking becuase transport is a major issue for me, it might be easier to get private lessions from someone near my area. Anyone know someone in the Tuggeranong region?

    Great, thanks Michael.
I'd been brushing up on my chords for the week leading up to this, but a ten year hiatus from playing guitar showed it's ugly head :). I'm looking forward to the next class and have already decided to save for a Tenor as my big fat fingers are having trouble on my
"The Sopranos" (its putting the hurt on my fingers). :D

I have a baritone uke (DGBE), so if that is not suitable will need to hire/borrow an instrument.

Try a single tenor wound G, they are quite a bit longer than needed. I have one if you want to try it

      Thanks, Michael

Hey folks, I was in Better Music at Phillip yesterday and they have scores of ukes for sale. Or, if you want a real cheapie, go to JB HiFi for a soprano uke (leary colours available) - a snip at $26.00. Not great quality, but good for a first taste.

Just a bit pof a heads up....i'm left handed so i've hand my uke strings arrange upside down; it should still be the same cord structure....this shouldn't be an inconvience or anything would it?

    April 3, 2013

    • Michael R.

Good advice, Luke. Better to change all the strings. I am happy to change them for you if you're unsure about how to do it.

    Hi Michael

Just a heads up that I've been trying to procure a ukulele around Canberra, but they seem to sell out the ones I was after. I am waiting on an order but if it doesn't come in time, will there be a spare ukulele I can borrow for this week?

    Thanks.

    April 8, 2013

    • Michael R.

Yes, I will bring a spare

Am withdrawing as I wish to focus on my baritone uke at this stage and might find attempting to learn both simultaneously too confusing!

Hi Michael, I bought a tenor at Philip and so now don't need to borrow one of yours - they gave me a very good discount on mention of the group and this course, so thanks. Apparently you had been in a little earlier with another student and helped her choose one.

Great, Kim. See you next Thursday.

....or buy an inexpensive one as I spent rather a lot on the baritone one as I loved its voice.

If there is a spot I would love to be part of the next beginners group.

Can't wait! Will contact you re. Getting a ukulele. Are there other places we could shop around though?

    1 · March 31, 2013

    • Michael R.

There is one on the north side called Pirana, and 2 in Fyshwick - Pro Audio & Davis Wheeler. I can only get a decent discount at Better Music, Phillip

      March 31, 2013

  • Luke P.

I got my Uke from Pro Audio in fyshwick just haggle for a good price where ever you go. I could have got cheaper but not worth the time or effort.

Yes, I have the same question as Joanne. Where would be a good place to get a reasonable ukelele at a reasonable price?

    March 25, 2013

    • Michael R.

Evelyn, please contact me[masked] as I can get a discount at a local music shop.

Hi Michael, I have just RSVP'd for Ukulele lessons for beginners, starting 11 April. No Uke at this stage. Have checked a few websites, but not sure what to purchase. Any advice would be great. email: [masked]
