Hike in the Peterskill area of Minnewaska State Park

  • April 5, 2014 · 10:30 AM
  • See "Directions" in the text below

This hike will use pieces of the Peterskill Loop trail, the High Peterskill trail, and the Bull Wheel trail.  We'll hike beside the picturesque Peterskill Creek, surrounded by hemlocks and rhododendron.  Then we'll climb up the High Peterskill trail and see pine trees and pitch pine and a great view.

Round trip distance:  about 3 to 4 miles

Elevation change:  about 500 feet

Level of hike:  Between beginner and intermediate

We'll hike at a relaxed pace - no one will be left behind

What to bring:  water, snacks/lunch, $8 per car park entrance fee

We'll meet at the Peterskill parking area, marked by a nice big sign.

Suggested donation: $2 to help offset the annual subscription fee that meetup charges organizers.

I had a blast on this hike. I look forward to going on another hike with all of you. I'm out of town for the next but I'm sure I'll be able to go to another one soon. Thanks for the good times =)

Nice hike. It was an enjoyable afternoon even if it was windy and slightly chilly. It was nice to see old friends and meet new ones.

hi! how do I get there by public transportation?

anyone coming from nyc? we need a ride

    April 2, 2014

    • Jeff S

Lida, there is no public transportation to the trail head. You need to be on the attenders list before you can join the hike - you can't just show up.

Deborah, coming from the junction of Rte 299 and Rte 44/55, the Peterskill area parking lot is BEFORE you get to the main park entrance.
