Hike the Mossy Glen Trail in Minnewaska State Park

  • Jun 14, 2014 · 9:30 AM
  • See "Directions" in the text below

Beginner hike

Distance: 3.5 miles round trip

Terrain: Moderate

Elevation gain: nothing significant

The Mossy Glen Trail hugs the bank of picturesque Peters Kill Creek. We will have to cross Peters Kill Creek on rocks, as the bridge is still out from hurricane Irene.  Bring water shoes if you have them, in case the water is high and covers the rocks.  Hike will be done at a relaxed pace - no one will be left behind. The aim is enjoyment by everyone, not speed! If the group wants to, we may extend the hike a bit by doing a piece of the Blueberry Run Trail. By the way, the reason for the early start time is that the Minnewaska parking lots can fill up quickly in the summer.

What to bring: $8 per car park entry fee, plenty of water, snacks, bug repellent

Directions to trail head:
Note that this is the lower parking area, right next to Rte 44/55, not the parking area at the top of the big hill.

Suggested donation: $2 to help offset the subscription fee that meetup charges to organizers

Liability waiver: By signing up for and participating in this event you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to the liability waiver at this address:

Cancellation info: I'll send email if the weather looks doubtful

I do work on the Mossy Glen trail with the NYNJTC. The Peters Kill bridge has been beautifully repaired by your trail volunteers! Enjoy!

Hi Sandy. I'm aware that the bridge at the Blueberry Run end of Mossy Glen has been repaired. Are you saying that the bridge near the parking area has also been repaired?

Guess you found out - but yes, all the bridges across the Peters Kill have been replaced.
