Distance is 3.6 miles round trip
No mountains involved, but hike is steadily uphill on the way to the falls
Hike will be led at a relaxed pace - no one will be left behind.
If your interest is in hiking as fast as possible, this hike is probably not for you.
The hike takes us through forest with quite a variety of trees: white pine; hemlock; chestnut, red and black oak; red, sugar, and striped maple; yellow birch; and mountain laurel. Vernooy Kill Falls is at the end of the hike. The falls drop about 60 feet over Catskill shale ledges in a series of cascades! Some of the ledges impound significant-sized pools. The image for this hike was taken at the falls. You may want to bring a bathing suit - however, there is no place to change except the woods.
According to my guide book, the Vernooy Kill runs even in severe drought, so we should have a decent amount of water coming down the falls.
What to bring:
water, lunch, bug repellant, sunscreen
