Announcing a new Meetup for Ulster County Outdoors!

What: Intermediate Hike: Slide Mountain

When: Sunday, July 18,[masked]:30 AM

Terrain: Intermediate/Strenuous, not a beginner hike
Distance: 7-8 miles
Pace: Relaxed/We decide the pace while enjoying the views
Welcome: All experienced hikers

You must have hiking experience and be physically fit to attend this event.

Please join us for a hike up Slide Mountain, the highest peak in the Catskills. Slide is capped with a balsam fir boreal forest and spectacular views! On a clear day you can see 70 Catskill peaks, the Shawangunks, the Hudson Highlands, the Taconics, the Berkshires, and maybe even the Green Mts in Vermont.

Total distance is 7-8 miles, vertical rise is 1930 ft. NY/NJ Trail Conference map # 43/143. Hike will be led at a relaxed pace - no one will be left behind!

Hike is described in "Walks and Rambles in the Western Hudson Valley" by Peggy Turco. Hiking to the summit we'll use the yellow-blazed trail (0.7) starting on Route 47 and then the red-blazed Wittenberg-Cornell-Slide Trail. For the return, we'll retrace our steps.

Directions: Will be emailed to attendees a few days before event.

What to bring: Plenty of water, lunch, snacks, hiking boots and an adventurous playful spirit!

Cancellation notice:
I will be monitoring the weather prior to the event and if conditions do not look good, the event is subject to cancellation. Please make sure to check your email/site prior to leaving your house. The cancellation notices will be sent prior to 5pm the night before.
