What profession are you in?

Proofreader, former paralegal

Please list at least three books that you would be interested in reading and discussing with the group? (Note you must answer this question with some specific titles)

Imagine - Jonah Lehrer The Tell Tale Brain – V.S. Ramachandran Prague in Black and Gold (and/or) Prague in Danger – Peter Demetz To Forgive Design, Understanding Failure – Henry Petrovski The Metaphysical Club – Louis Menand How We Do Harm: A Doctor Breaks Ranks About Being Sick in America – Dr. Otis Brawley

Have you been a member of other book clubs and what did you like or not like about those groups?

What I liked was belonging to a group of people who enjoyed talking over ideas from a questioning and learning point of view, which is a nice antidote to the spin and rant of a good part (or at least the noisiest part) of public discourse. One thing that didn’t work so well in one group was they ended up talking about dating and apartment hunting etc. and left off discussing books altogether. I love chatting and catching up too, but not when it eclipses talking about what we’ve read.

I read a lot, write a little and love to explore. Interested in learning more about neuroscience, other cultures, evolution of languages and ideas, seeing things from different points of view.
