Anthropology. Teach physical anthropology at Laney but my degrees and most of my research have been in social-cultural anthropology.
"The Animal Connection" (Shipman); "Riddled with Life" (Zuk); "The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution," Dawkins.
Yes. Currently a member of East Bay book club. Like: engaged discussions on disparate topics. Unenthusiastic about: books on spirituality, self-help, pop psychology, religion, science fiction. In a book group formed by friends, I loved the company but was disappointed by the minimal time we spent grappling with the book. To me, an ideal book group would provide pleasant social interaction but also allow for diving into a challenging book. It would also be wonderful if group members recognized that dialogues dominated by two or three people are less enjoyable than those in which multiple voices are allowed to weigh in.
Interested in political economy, biology, paleontology, history and many other subjects. I really enjoy intelligent, sustained discussion and don't get enough of it.
Well-focused, engaged discussion last night. Congenial people. Just what I've been looking for.
