The Barrel Thief consistently offers tasting and educational opportunities for wine appreciators and spirits tasters alike. This coming Thursday event will be both tasty AND educational. Christopher is a member and is reserving a booth for Underground Winos to converge, drop your purses, and meet in one area. Hope you can make it. Parking may be easier to get if you come earlier, but there are parking garages within a block. ** NOTE: if you haven't tasted the french wines, that are usually out of reach for most of us, be there early. Pomerol! Bordeaux! Also pricey Washington Wineries Betz! Col Solare! Don't say I didn't warn you. ;-)
First: Rose' Madness
We have some killer Rosés for you this Thursday. These rock hard, represent great diversity of style, and are fantastic values, as low as $10 a bottle for some unique juice. Featuring:
* Rive della Chiesa (Italy / $13 / 50% Merlot, 30% Pinot Noir, 20% Glera)
* Villa Wolf (Germany / $13 / 100% Pinot Noir)
* Pellehaut Rosé (France / $10 / Tannat, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec)
* Eyrie (Oregon / $22 / 93% Pinot Noir, 7% Pinot Meunier)
* Bonny Doon (California / $19 / 55% Grenache, 24% Mourvèdre, 10% Roussanne, 2% Carigñan, 2% Grenache Blanc, 7% Cinsaut)
* Lauren Ashton Cellars (Washington / $21 / 50% Grenache, 50% Mourvedre)
These are being presenting by Nathan Barker of Vinum Importing, and I can't wait to try the couple of these that are new to me...based on the several that I already know and enjoy, you won't want to miss this!
Second: CORAVIN Demonstration
We're proud to welcome Greg Lambrecht, founder of the Coravin Wine Access System, to The Barrel Thief for a special event! Mr. Lambrecht invented the Coravin, a hand-held device that extracts wine from a bottle without removing the cork. A needle is used to inject inert Argon into the bottle (the same gas used by winemakers, since it doesn't affect the wine), and wine flows out through the same needle, into a glass. The needle is then retracted, and the cork self-seals. The net result is that a glass of wine has been neatly extracted from the bottle, displaced by Argon, and no oxidizing air has been introduced to the bottle.
The Barrel Thief has been using the Coravin for almost a year to serve our 150+ wines by the glass, and we've had splendid results. We're pleased to host Mr. Lambrecht as he demonstrates the Coravin by serving samples of premium wines from bottles that have been previously tapped using the device.At the event, Mr. Lambrecht will answer questions about the Coravin, and you'll get to sample some fantastic wines, including Château Carbonnieux Blanc (Bordeaux), Château Nenin (Pomerol, Bordeaux), Signorello Estate (Napa Valley), and Washington wineries Betz and Col Solare. A Coravin device will be given away in a free raffle, and there will be light appetizers.There is no charge for the event, and reservations are not required. The event is primarily educational, but the Coravin will be available for sale.This is a unique opportunity to see an important new wine technology in action, meet its inventor in person, try some great wine, and, for one lucky person, go home with a free Coravin!
