Collier County Museum Old Florida Festival

12:30 PM

Collier County Museum

3331 Tamiami Trail East

Naples, FL 34112

Join Understand Photography for a photowalk into the past at the Old Florida Festival. Capture images of over 100 of the state’s finest historical reenactors, craftworkers and living history presenters recreating over ten centuries of everyday life on the Southwest Florida frontier. Photograph a Calusa Indian, a Seminole family, a Civil War soldier, a Cracker cattleman, a Spanish Conquistador and dozens of other costumed time-travelers. Continuous all-day demonstrations will be offered by the blacksmith, soap maker, telegraph operator, flintknapper, basket weaver and other craftworkers, along with 1800s-style music and entertainment, cannon and musket firing, a Seminole War skirmish, and authentic military drills by soldiers from the American Revolution to World War II. More info - http://www.colliermuseums.com/festival/index.php.

Photowalks are not classes, just an opportunity to get together with other photographers and take pictures. We are a very friendly group and love to help if asked, so all levels of photographers are welcome! There is no charge to join us on the photowalk, pay only the admission charged by the event.

Event Admission: Adults: $5 | Children (8 to 18): $2 | Children under 8: Free

Event Parking is free of charge and offers accessible parking spaces. Museum is fully accessible.

It was a very good time and I learned a lot. It's very helpful to see how other people approach the same subject. Seeing their pictures (and their gear) helps me grow as picture taker and improves my work. Some of the photographers did some very interesting post processing work that was awesome to see.

Man, Looks like I missed a lot of the more interesting stuff. I had to be there earlier than the rest of you due to a family occasion. Some nice photos here, I'll try to post what I got as well. Great job everyone!

Really cool museum in the heart of Naples. Re-enactors outfits were amazing. Can't wait to see everyone's photos.

Very interesting, the re-enactors outfits were great but , more so was their skills ie being in their period. As they talked they got into the role and were good photo ops - a great time

Sorry I had to miss this Photo op. Yesterday I developed an eye infection. Went to the walk-in clinic and got a prescription. Hope to see you all soon.

    this is a FAVORITE event!
It rivals Mid-evil faire as a unique, interpretive education.

I may go, but earlier than the meetup time to get a few pics. Gonna go to my sister's to see my nephew back off to college. Man, saying that makes me feel old...

John, we will meet at 12:30PM near
the entrance to the festival. Since we don't know the exact layout of the venue I can't be more specific. Look for the crowd of photographers, that will be us!

    1 · March 5, 2013

  • John R.

Is there a specific place we will be meeting? And time?

Photographing festivals, especially those with folk in costumes, are good opportunities to hone those street photography skills, looking forward to it.
