The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett

Amazon description: A treasure worth killing for. Sam Spade, a slightly shopworn private eye with his own solitary code of ethics. A perfumed grafter named Joel Cairo, a fat man named Gutman, and Brigid O’Shaughnessy, a beautiful and treacherous woman whose loyalties shift at the drop of a dime. These are the ingredients of Dashiell Hammett’s coolly glittering gem of detective fiction, a novel that has haunted three generations of readers.

It was a small but very nice group. All in attendance seemed to enjoy the book. We talked about various aspects of the book, such as the genre at that time; the fact that all the sinister people in the book were foreign-born, the [lack of] ethics of the major characters, etc.

Paula, you are definitely correct about the noise level at Panera at 1:00. The 3:00 or 3:30 pm time would be better I think.

It was a great book and a great group. There were only 5 of us which was a little disappointing. However, we did disscus the book and then discussed other things about ourselves and our lives. I would do it again. I am looking forward to discussing "Flowers for Algernon."

And 3)Why has the location not been changed on Meetup.com?
    4) The "Unexpected Book Club Mailing List" emails from Tom SEEM to allow each of us to reply to all, which is annoying, especially for those who have not RSVPd Yes to this event.

I am curious about several things:
    1) When I post this on the Maltese Falcon event webpage on Meetup.com, does Meetup.com generate an email to everyone or just those who RSVP'd Yes for this event? I believe my Account/Email Settings that allow this meetup's members to contact me would allow this type of Post to email me.
    2) Why have we changed to 1pm meetups from 3:30pm? Meeting at Panera's at lunch time on Saturday would have to be noisier than 3:30pm Saturday.
    Please reply.

Since the ABC is closed, we should probably meet at the Panera Bread near the Target at Waugh Chapel.

I love Sam Spade. What a good suggestion!
