Baldwin Park Shelter Volunteer Orientation

The next Baldwin Park Shelter Volunteer Orientation is scheduled for Saturday, March 22 from 10 am- 12 pm at Morgan Park (address below). If you’d like to work hands on with the shelter dogs and cats on our Glamour Shot Days and haven’t already been through an orientation, please attend.

***NOTE***: The LA County Department of Animal Care and Control Orientation has recently revised it's orientation process. The new process for becoming a certified county volunteer is now as follows:

Step 1: An introduction to county policies and procedures and shelter tour (offered Every third Saturday of the month).

Step 2: Hands-on training shadowing a Baldwin Park Shelter kennel attendant (which you will sign up for on Saturday).

Step 3: Volunteering in non-animal handling roles for 15 hours. There are several ways to accrue your 15 hours. The step 2 shadow sessions count, as does shadowing and helping on Glamour Shot Days. The shelter also always needs help with greeting and directing people when they arrive at the shelter, laundry, cleaning kennels, etc.

Step 4: An online training module (done at home, in your slippers if you'd like) on animal handling. We are asking that all new volunteers keep track of their hours so they can request the online training module.

Step 5: Certification by a shelter employee. We are working with them to have this certification "exam" offered weekly.

After completing this orientation, you'll be qualified for your red shirt, kennel key privileges, and some minimal medical insurance coverage for any unforeseen accidents while working with shelter animals. Having your own health insurance is highly recommended.

When and Where:

The orientation will start at the Morgan Park, Meeting, Room 1 at 9 am and will finish with a short tour of the shelter.

What to bring:

1. Please visit, print a volunteer application, and fill it out. Note: Please DO NOT submit the form electronically. Bring a hard copy with you to the orientation instead.

2. Fill out and bring the documents and waivers you can find here:

3. Please bring copies of the following documents: 1. A US Passport (preferred) or 2. A Driver's License AND a US Social Security card. NOTE: ID IS REQUIRED.

What to wear:

Please wear "shelter casual" attire: close-toed shoes, long pants, and a tshirt or sweatshirt.

If you haven't yet attended a Glamour Shot Day but would like to come check it out before committing to the orientation, you are welcome to attend an upcoming Glamour Shot Day and shadow an experienced volunteer. For more details about a shadowing day, please email me at [masked].

    Hello. I would like to join the orientation but have a couple of questions. Is it this coming Saturday March 15th at 10am? I know it's says here but also the description below that is actually mentioning October and the time 9am-12pm. Also the two required forms do not open. Could you please confirm where can I find them online?
