Game Jam - August 2nd, 2014

Game Jam Theme to be announced at event. Game Lab will be available for on-going projects. Beginners welcome.

There will be pizza, donuts, sodas and water.  Please bring a bag of chips to share and a few dollars for pizza plus anything else you might want to drink (BYOB).

** We need an accurate head count for ordering pizza. RSVP if you will attend. **

Download a copy of the latest version of Unity (free) on your laptop so we are all working with the same version.  Download SourceTree (free) and make sure you have a github account set up before you arrive. (It is very important to have this file sharing resource)

Remember to eat lunch before you arrive, bring something to drink, download all the files you need and get ready to have some fun designing games...

If you have any questions, please email in advance so we can talk about it:  [masked]

BEGINNERS:  If you are new to Unity3D, please take the time to go through some of the tutorials found on YouTube and at the main Unity3D website:

http://unity3d.com/learn

There is a lot you can learn by downloading the free software, watching beginner videos, and playing around in Unity.  The more you know before you arrive, the more you will get out of the event.

Beginners are welcome, but pleases understand that this is not a college computer lab and you need to bring a laptop if you want hands on experience.

Parking - You can park in the driveway or on the street near my house.  I park on the street occasionally and have never had a problem.  There is also an office building with an open parking lot less than a block away if you are not comfortable parking on the street.  But of course, I assume no responsibility for any tickets or towing and you should look into it further yourself if you are concerned about it.

Game Lab:  same day, time and location

For returning members that want to work on their on-going projects...

- Space Wars (1 player, 2 player and MOBA)

- Fantasy RPG that is already well underway

- Mobile Game:  zombies destroy a medieval town - top down view

Don - Good idea. I think most people would love to see the new Kinect 2.0 camera in action.

Howard, the next session you have i can bring the Kinect 2.0 camera for people to look at and to see if anyone is interested on our project of course.

Hi all, Howard and I met yesterday to get some more concrete plans in place for the direction of this game. I've updated the tasks in github and also have started assigning them to specific milestones. That way we don't waste time in this meetup. I'm sure it'll be a fun and productive day for us all. See you all there.

Howard & James (and anyone else without a car),
Since Howard kindly offered to pick people up at the metro stop, maybe all of us coming on the metro can coordinate a time to get there so he only has to make one run?
Or worst case that way we can split a taxi ride.

Can someone give me a ride to the jam? I live in Alexandria, but don't have private transportation

Same here, I'm not really sure how I'm getting there. Maybe we can split a car2go or something?

I can pick you up at a metro stop if that helps (Dunn Loring) - Or maybe Stephanie & Chris can bring James since they live in the same area (you all should connect either way being so close to each other). Splitting a car2go is a good idea if it is not too expensive - email privately and let us know if you decide to do that.
