Unity Open Development Lab (Theme: Motion Capture) + Speaker from Unity

Come experience motion capture yourself at this open development lab.

Houston Community College Digital Gaming and Simulation Department has 2 motion capture solutions that DGS students use for creating real-time projects.

  • The VICON solution has actors wearing sensor suits surrounded by 12 cameras that capture motion at 60 frames per second.
  • The NATURAL MOTION solution involves one actor surrounded by 8 cameras that capture motion at 30 frames per second.

Motions can be fed directly into programs like Autodesk MotionBuilder for editing and final deployment into real-time game engines such as Unity3D.

Come try on a Vicon Suit and see motion capture in action.

By the way companies and studios who need a motion capture solution can use these services free of charge as long as DGS students are helping with the service.  If you need any custom solutions, please contact Reginald Leathers at (713) 718 - 7895

We will be at HCC Southwest in there Digital Gaming and Simulation labs. You can bring your own machine or use one of HCC lab computers.

The lab computers have:
3ds Max
Sketchbook Pro
Visual Studio

Would you like to show off the work you are doing? Would you like to pitch a game? Would you like to collaborate on a unity project or problem? Want to try out unity? Want to come and help others developers? Then this meeting is certainly the one you won't want to miss!

BTW guys, if you plan to be motion captured, do not wear anything white. The darker the clothing the better.

For those of us who can't be there the whole day, when will the speaker be presenting?

    May 2, 2013

    • Robert B.

That will be a little organic Nathan. We will start with the mocap and then when we get some good data (~1hr or so) we'll shift to Unity and bringing in the data.

Hey guys sorry for the last minute change of dates but the development lab has been pushed back a week. Please note the following changes.

CANCELLED: April 27 for 10am to 2pm at HCC

NEW MEETING: May 4 for 10am to 6pm at HCC

We are going to keep the same theme being Motion Capture. But we are going to be adding a guest speaker from Unity. There should be lots of good information offered and we are looking forward to seeing everyone there.
