D3 Study Group

At our first meeting, we discussed the first 4 chapters, skipped chapter 5, and worked through part of chapter 6.  Here's the plan for this session:

  • Look closely at chapter 5, specifically the selectAll-data-enter-append statement using Chrome's javascript debugger.  This is pretty fundamental for d3.
  • Review and finish chapter 6.
  • Discuss chapter 7 on scales
  • Start (and maybe finish) chapter 8 on axes.

We are meeting in the Koelbel building, room 350, which should make parking a little easier.

Hope to see you there!

Here's the link to the Eyeo 2013 - Mike Bostock video which we grabbed glimpses of. I watched it yesterday and found it very informative, even useful!

i really liked the clarification of the enter / "update" / exit functions in d3 this week! thanks
also I noticed the value "undefined" showing up in the javascript console in our talks and found this link about "undefined" values that might be of interest: http://shapeshed.com/the-void-of-undefined-in-javascript/

I have a fair amount of experience using d3 in production webapps, hope to learn some more as well as help explain things if needed!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
