December Meetup

The days are getting shorter and the year is coming to an end but we have another amazing lineup for you this December at Untangle the Web. We're back upstairs at our usual spot on the third floor of Google Campus.

As always you can follow us on twitter @Untangle_ to discover more about our speakers, find useful resources and more.

The talks:

Phil Hawksworth on Web Development in the modern
As the sophistication of devices, interfaces and users has increased, so have the skills needed. Modern sites need to render quickly, look good everywhere, and work everywhere including places which don’t even exist yet.

In this session we will look at some modern web development practices and concerns. We’ll consider how the project workflow can enable responsive design, client approval, and ensure the quality of the code. We’ll also see how development teams can collaborate from a distance and what tools can help us to create exciting and effective web sites and applications.

Henry Hadlow on Typography
The web is made of text. Text as information, text as interface. Typography is the main way you can shape your designs to be more informative, more stylish and easier to navigate. This talk is a practical guide to typography and grids on the web, including a couple of tools to help you get going quickly.

Jamie Knight (and Lion) on Delivering iPlayer Radio
Last year the BBC launched iPlayer Radio. A single product to support the diverse BBC radio network, from Radio 1 and Radio 4, all the way through to Radio Norfolk. This talk details how they delivered an accessible, fast, and maintainable product, at speed and at scale.

We look forward to seeing you next week for our usual combination of great talks and networking. If you can’t make it then we’ll hopefully be seeing you next year!

I'll be giving a talk with the rather self-important title of: "Web development in the modern"

    Here's a synopsis:

Gone are the days of calling yourself a web developer because you know some HTML. As the sophistication of devices, interfaces and users has increased, so have the skills needed. Modern sites need to render quickly, look good everywhere, and work everywhere including places which don't even exist yet.

This has become a difficult business.

In this session we will look at some modern web development practices and concerns. We'll consider how the project workflow can enable responsive design, client approval, and ensure the quality of the code. We'll also see how development teams can collaborate from a distance and what tools can help us to create exciting and effective web sites and applications.

Happy to answer any questions via twitter (http://twitter.com/philhawksworth) or at the session.
