Birds of Prey/Raptor Center

We have an opportunity to go to the Carolina Raptor Center to shoot some great birds! This is a 2 hour shooting event. The details about the event are below:

1.5 Hours Perched Time
30 Minutes Flight Time

There will be a total of 4 handlers there, and they will bring out new birds every 30 minutes. Most will be native species, but there will be a few non-natives. We're looking at about 12 different birds for this event.

The cost is $35 payable by cash, check or charge the day of the event directly to the Carolina Raptor Center. This fee is not only for our private event, but also includes your admission to the center and you're welcome to arrive early/stay late and enjoy everything the center has to offer.

You must arrive at the center by 8:30 AM.  Our scheduled shooting time is from 9:00-11:00.  For those interested in carpooling, please use the comments area to get in touch with members.

Please note that the center suggests limiting the amount of photographers to 35. They feel that any more than that, photographers begin stepping on each other. I have put a limit of 35 on this meetup and please ask that you only RSVP if you are absolutely commited to this event and if you need to cancel for whatever reason, PLEASE update your RSVP status so it will move anyone on the waiting list up to the next available spot.

I'm stunned that I was able to get so many usable shots from this shoot, considering the weather. I've posted some of my initial edits to my flickr site here:

    Thanks for arranging this event!

I posted several images from the event, FYI. The event was fantastic, and to those of you who didn't show or weren't able to make it - you definitely missed out! We had the center to ourselves from about 8:45-11:00 with several beautiful raptors (a total of 12 perched and 4 in flight). The weather was great although a bit chilly, the drive was simple, and the center's volunteers and staff members were very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. I sincerely urge you to check into the center's regular Photo Wild events that are held in the fall & spring. The next events will be on 3 days in October of this year and spots fill up quickly.

Ex-plan day job deadline just came up so I have to work Saturday. Apologies for dropping out but it looks like there is a waiting list.

I need to change my +1 to +2, how do I do this?

    May 1, 2013

    • Kris H.

We are closed to RSVPs now because between our group and another we are at our limit. That being said - go ahead and bring your +2 as I think we have someone in our group that won't show. If we're 1 over our limit, I doubt it will be a problem. The group is limited to 35 - the other group has 26 already but some may be no-shows.

The weather should be mostly cloudy, but will the event be canceled if it rains?

There are no plans to cancel the event due to weather. I've re-confirmed our plans for this Saturday & all is good! :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
