THANKSGIVING AFTER BURN: Ultimate Frisbee

  • Clanton Pavillion/Soccer Fields

3132 Manchester Drive, Charlotte, NC (map)

    35.205696 -80.883583

  • Park in the lot by the Pavilion and take the path back to the soccer fields.
  • Come burn off some of that Thanksgiving feasting as you run all over a field chasing a frisbee! A great way to get a workout in while having a great time.

Co-ed and recreational, Ultimate Frisbee is very easy to learn and you'll pick it up in no time. So even if you have never played before, think you can't throw or a frisbee, you can still join us and have a great time! Come prepared to run, run, run!

**We will try to play no more than 7-on-7. So if we have enough people we will play more than one game at a time.**

THE RULES WE WILL PLAY BY:

    To begin play
The ultimate players from each team line up on their end zones, and the defense team throws the disc to the other team as a "kick-off".

    Movement of the Ultimate Disc
The disc may be moved in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. After catching a pass, a player is required to come to a stop as quickly as possible, and then can only move their non-pivot foot. The player can throw the disc before stopping within the first couple of steps after they gain possession of the disc. A player may jump from within bounds to catch a disc that has passed out-of-bounds, but The player must then throw the disc back in-bounds before his/her feet or any other part of his/her body touches the ground. The thrower may only catch their own throw if another player touches it in the air.

    Scoring
A point is scored when a player catches a pass in the end zone his team is attacking. After a point is scored, the teams exchange ends. The team who just scored remains in that end zone, and the opposing team takes the opposite end zone. Play is re-initiated by the scoring team throwing off to the opposing team

    Change of possession
An incomplete pass results in a change of possession. When this happens the defense immediately becomes the offense and gains possession of the disc where it comes to a stop on the field of play, or where it first traveled out of bounds. Play does not stop because of a turnover. Turnovers are:

Throw-away — the thrower misses his target and the disc falls to the ground.

Drop — the receiver is not able to catch the disc.

Block — a defender deflects the disc in mid flight, causing it to hit the ground.

Interception — a defender catches a disc thrown by the offense.

Out of bounds — the disc lands out of bounds, hits an object out of bounds or is caught by a player who lands out of bounds or leaps from outside the playing field.

    Fouls
A foul is the result of contact between players, although incidental contact (not affecting the play) does not constitute a foul. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession were retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with (contests) the foul call, the disc is returned to the last thrower.
