Fair Park Fourth A grand way to salute America's independence!

Friday, July 4, 2014  - 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

The City of Dallas, Friends of Fair Park and the State Fair of Texas invite everyone to celebrate America with a day of family fun at the City of Dallas’ official Independence Day celebration, Fair Park Fourth.

Enjoy live music, water features and access to rides, games and concessions within the State Fair of Texas Midway, starting at noon on July fourth.  Throughout the afternoon, music will be performed by the celebratory Razzmajazz Dixieland Band, and at 7 p.m. experience the explosive sound and crazy look of the legendary Texas trio ZZ Top, performed by one of the nation’s top tribute acts, Dallas' own, Trio Grande, with band members Kraig Parker, Pauley DeFrancisco and Rod Foster.

Admission to the Midway is $5, or complimentary to those who participate in the Dallas Park and Recreation “Dallas 7/4” race (7k/4k) that morning.  Approximately 26 exhilarating rides will be available on the Midway.  Ride and game costs will vary.  For more information on the State Fair of Texas Midway, visit

Texas Discovery Gardens will be open extended hours, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the annual “Red, White and Butterflies” festivities. Enjoy the gardens, butterflies, crafts and activities all day long for a reduced $1 admission.  The Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park will be open from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will charge a discounted admission of $4 per person after 4:30 p.m. The Fair Park campus of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science will have the Nature Building open from noon to 5 p.m.  Admission will be $1.00, or free for members.

More live music and access to food trucks will be available throughout Fair Park starting at 6:00 p.m. Free and open to the public, the family-friendly event will feature patriotic performances, “dancing water” shows at the Esplanade Fountain, entertainment, concessions, plus a spectacular fireworks show at approximately 9:30 p.m.

View the fireworks show from inside the Cotton Bowl, on the State Fair of Texas Midway, or from various locations throughout the Fair Park grounds. For more information on Fair Park festivities, including museum information and the “Dallas 7/4 Race,” visit

Pendery’s, the oldest family-owned and operated business in Texas, and the inventors of the chili powder blend, will hold their first “Charity Challenge Chili Cook-off,” benefiting Homeless Veterans, the Housing Crisis Center, Assist the Officer Foundation, and Friends of Fair Park.  Following the competition, a BBQ gala will be served by volunteers from the Dallas Police Department, followed by the award and trophy presentation, and the fireworks show.  For more information, to purchase tickets, make a donation or to enter the competition, visit

For the third consecutive year, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) will present a one-hour red, white and blue, Texas-size salute to America’s birthday from historic Fair Park. Ron Corning, Colleen Coyle and Joe Trahan will anchor the program from in and around the Cotton Bowl.

The television show will feature a mixture of talented local artists, including a live performance by members of the Jazz Singers vocal ensemble from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Others scheduled to appear on the TV show include members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s brass section, Texas country artist Tony Ramey, a performance by the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, which will include a special salute to all branches of the United States Armed Forces, and, of course, a spectacular LIVE fireworks display.

Parking for the general public is $5 at Fair Park Gates 5, 6, 10 and 11.  Gates D and E to the Cotton Bowl will open at 7 p.m. Produced by Pyrotecnico, the fireworks display will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Thought it would be easy for us to get over there with Dart. But if Google maps is to be trusted we would have to take 2 buses and walk 0.5 to fair park. Sooooo, not going to work. Driving seems like q huge pain. Will have to sit this one out.

Thanks David! I checked the website and it only confirms Gmap's route. We're in North Oak Cliff, hence the buses I think.
