San Bruno Mountain Hike ending at The Broken Record

San Bruno Mountain, on a clear blue day just might be our most spectacular hike.  I have done this hike in both sunny and cloudy weather.  When it is cloudy it is ok, but when it is sunny, the views are stunning.  So, foggy or cloudy weather will probably cause us to revert to plan B which is a different hike also starting at Daly City BART.  If it is foggy or cloudy, I will send out an email by 10 am on the morning of the hike to let everyone know we are hiking the plan B hike.

We will meet at the Daly City BART station at 1:00 just outside of the paid area near the station agent booth.  At 1:10 p.m. sharp we will head towards San Bruno Mountain via Daly City streets.  When we get there we will take a lunch break and do maybe one of the lower trails.  Then we will do the summit loop.  We might also add the ridge trail this time too.  When we are done we will head down and take Daly City and San Francisco streets to happy hour and pub food at the Broken Record on Geneva Avenue in SF.  We expect to get there around 5:30.  Afterwards, people can head back towards Mission Street and the various Mission Street transit options.  Balboa Park BART is also not far away.

Dogs are not allowed on San Bruno Mountain per the San Mateo County park rules.

Weather info:  We hope that it won't be foggy/cloudy so we can take in the spectacular views on the top of the mountain.  When it is foggy, the views are obscured.  So if fog is the the forecast, we may reschedule this and do a different walk also starting from Daly City BART.

If you are arriving at the starting point via MUNI bus #28, please allow extra travel time because that bus is slow.  Also, if we are lucky there will be some blackberry picking opportunities on this hike.

Hope to see you there!

We will do this hike again some day. Please check our calendar for new hikes. There won't be much in September but we should have a lot going on in October and November.

Does "take a lunch break" mean we should pack a lunch or that we'll be finding a restaurant before the hike? Looking forward to it

Yes, please pack a lunch. Restaurant options are slim to none until we reach the Broken Record at the end.

Approximately how many miles do we hike?

    August 24, 2013

    • Kuro K.

I can do 7 miles but I'm not sure about 10 miles... Are there points where I can retire in the middle?

      August 24, 2013

    • Susan O.

You can turn around at any point that you wish. Just remain aware of how to get back the way you came. The summit is the best part of the hike though.
