San Bruno Mountain, on a clear blue day just might be our most spectacular hike. I have done this hike in both sunny and cloudy weather. When it is cloudy it is ok, but when it is sunny, the views are stunning. So, foggy or cloudy weather will probably cause us to revert to plan B which is a different hike also starting at Daly City BART. If it is foggy or cloudy, I will send out an email by 10 am on the morning of the hike to let everyone know we are hiking the plan B hike.
We will meet at the Daly City BART station at 12:30 just outside of the paid area near the station agent booth. At 12:40 p.m. sharp we will head towards San Bruno Mountain via Daly City streets. When we get there we will take a lunch break and do maybe one of the lower trails. Then we will do the summit loop. We might also add the ridge trail this time too. When we are done we will head down and take Daly City and San Francisco streets to happy hour and pub food at the Broken Record on Geneva Avenue in SF. We expect to get there around 5:00ish. Afterwards, people can head back towards Mission Street and the various Mission Street transit options. Balboa Park BART is also not far away.
Dogs are not allowed on San Bruno Mountain per the San Mateo County park rules.
Weather info: We hope that it won't be foggy/cloudy so we can take in the spectacular views on the top of the mountain. When it is foggy, the views are obscured. So if fog is the the forecast, we may reschedule this and do a different walk also starting from Daly City BART.
If you are arriving at the starting point via MUNI bus #28, please allow extra travel time because that bus is slow.
If you are running late, you can try to catch up with us using these directions: http://carfreeoutdoors.wordpress.com/2010/04/18/san-bruno-mountain-summit/ . Look for us taking a lunch break in the picnic tables.
Hope to see you there!
