Hike The Presidio

Lets do a pre- St Paddy's day hike in the green forests of the Presidio.   We will start at the Lombard gate and then hike to Fort Winfield Scott and ending up at the newly restored Mountain Lake. Along the way we may see some sites such as a Yoda statue, the native plant nursery, a log cabin and many old military batteries. The happy hour will be at an Irish bar on Clement Street, either Plough and Stars or The Bitter End. Hike will be around 6 miles with hills and will end at a different location, Clement Street around 5th Avenue.

Chamroeun, 511.org will be your best bet for sorting out transit options from your point of origin. But transit alone might be a couple hours from your start point. Another option, you could drive the short distance to San Rafael, park near S.R. Transit and bus to the Presidio is just under an hour. I'm leaving from S.R., around 12:30, we can go together and I'll show you route if you wish.

It is going to be a warm day tomorrow so bring plenty of water. We will be taking a short lunch snack break also. There will be hills and stairs and lots of great views. We will leave Lombard Gate at 2:10 sharp and head towards the main post.

Do you have an estimate of total distance and total elevation gain?

    March 9, 2014

    • kate

Around 6 miles - not sure about the elevation in the Presidio - will be mostly flat with some hills since it is San Francisco
