Presenter Bios/Workshop Descriptions:
Raised in Pennsylvania Dutch country where the homesteading ethic is strong, Zachariah Tomazin was taught how to make fruit wine by his grandfather. He has experimented since with ferments from meade to moonshine, much of it in Montana (where the DIY ethic is also strong). In his first urban application of home brewing, Zach will demonstrate how to begin the process with basic equipment and will crack a vintage bottle of an old batch.
Annabelle Ho is secretary for the group Slow Food BU and author of the blog Kombucha Fuel, http://kombuchafuel.b.... As a kombucha brewer for over a year, she enjoys teaching kombucha workshops and spreading the kombucha love! Traced back to Chinese origins to around 220 B.C., numerous health promoting and detoxifying effects have been attributed to Kombucha Tea, also referred to as the "elixir of life." Although store-bought kombucha can cost $3+ per bottle, it is very inexpensive and easy to brew your own. Learn about the traditional and continuous brewing methods, bottling and secondary fermentation, how to obtain and grow your own kombucha mushrooms, and more. Samples of home-brewed kombucha tea will be provided and kombucha cultures will also be available for individuals to take home to start brewing on their own.
