Pavement Pulling Party

  • Mar 20, 2010 · 12:00 PM

From UHL Member Patrick Keaney:

Hello, everyone. Over here at 58 Hobart St., we've decided to
ring in the Spring with a good, ol'-fashioned Pavement Pulling
Party. As the name suggests, the focus of this party will be
pulling pavement. We have a paved backyard over here, and it's
awfully hard to grow anything on it. Impermeable, even. So on
Saturday, we'll be ripping it up. Literally.

WHAT: 1st Annual Pavement Pulling Party
WHEN: Saturday, March 20th (vernal equinox)
TIME: 12n-??
PLACE: 58 Hobart St., Brighton, MA 02135

Refreshments provided.

Kids welcome - get 'em started early on pulling pavement!! Due
to a century of misguided transportation policy, there's plenty
to pull...

Call for directions or more information:[masked]

Old pavement isn't as tough as you might think. A screwdriver
is usually all you need to get under it. Sometimes you can get
a big chunk with your bare hands! I ask you - honestly - what
would you rather be doing on the first beautiful Spring day of
the year besides ripping up pavement and readying the ground
for some more organic gardens? I thought so. See you Saturday.

This was a great idea--pulling up pavement and making garden space. I didn't have very much time to be part of it, but I think I helped out a little. I love the idea that there will now be more things growing and less asphalt.
