Fall Bee School

In two full-day Bee School, you will learn all the basics to keep honeybees organically; I will go over the techniques of organic beekeeping, including materials and equipment, beehive structure, the life cycle of bees, hive development and dynamic, seasonal apiary work, honey and hive products, common pests and diseases, and their organic management. A hands-on visit in the apiary (weather permitting) will serve as demonstration of the material seen in the classroom.

For those who are thinking about getting bees or are new to beekeeping, this is a great
way to learn the Whats, Hows, and Whys of organic bee management. It will get you ready to order material and bees to start comes spring.

The class will happen at my place at 31 Parkton Rd, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 on Sat. Sept 14th and 28th from 8:30 til 4:30. A pot-luck lunch will give us time to socialize & share other stories. The hands-on hive visit will take place Sunday Sept 15th from 10-12 (raindate Sunday Sept 29th) in my apiary.

Cost: $135 (includes the book provided on the first day of class). To hold your spot send your check to Jean-Claude Bourrut, at the address above. Limited to 6 participants.

About the Instructor: Jean-Claude Bourrut, an organic farmer, has been keeping honeybees for 20 years in urban and suburban settings, and currently manages a dozen hives in two apiaries. He is also the co-founder of the Boston Beekeepers Club and the instigator of the Boston Tour De Hives, an annual bike tour of local apiaries in the Greater Boston Area.
