Vermicomposting 101 -- Worm Composting Workshop

In this class you will learn the basics of vermicomposting (composting with earthworms). Topics include: the science of vermicomposting, how to create a hospitable home for your worms, do's and don'ts for feeding your worms food scraps, troubleshooting problems with your bin, and ways to harvest your vermicompost. Participants will then use the tools and supplies provided to build their own worm bin, make worm bedding, add the bedding to their bin, and welcome 1000 or so worms into their family.

There is a $50 fee to attend.  You walk away with your own worm bin (made from reused materials), and filled with a pound of composting worms, as well as bedding for the worms to live in.  You can register and pay at the Brown Paper Tickets Web site; .  Two or more members attending from the same household should contact Bill [masked]) for possible discounts.

Teacher: George Zahka, founder of Infinite Compost, has been composting for the past 10 years. Three years ago he welcomed 1000 red wiggler composting worms into his family, and he now has over 50,000 worms hanging out in his basement (in bins). You can learn more about his composting exploits at

Three hours. Sorry it doesn't say it in the MeetUp announcement -- there doesn't seem to be a category for length/duration.
