Hi everyone. I have some very exciting news! The Urban Homesteaders? League Market Stand will be launching in about two weeks at the Union Square Farmers Market in Somerville.
The UHL Market Stand will be an experiential learning space where visitors can learn skills for sustainable urban living and creative domesticating. Members of the UHL (and other interested folks) will lead skillshares on a wide variety of subjects, and visitors will also be able to take home free informational broadsides; swap items they've made or grown at the UHL Swap Table; browse the traveling UHL library; and meet other people interested in urban homesteading. The stand will take place twice a month from June-October.
This project is about you, and it won?t happen without your participation and support!
There are many ways to play a part:
-- Lead a 15-20 minute skillshare on a topic of your choice, and then chat with visitors in between skillshares about your particular subject. Email me if you?re interested (I?m currently scheduling for June 19th and 26th).
-- Make or grow something to swap at the UHL Swap Table. If you're swapping something you've made, include the recipe/directions for making it so the recipient can give it a go!
-- Visit the stand! Come hang out, learn something new (skillshares will happen on the quarter hour), and meet other people interested in urban homesteading.
-- Contribute to the Kickstarter campaign (Coming Soon...) Help fund the project, and get something cool in return.
-- Follow the project on the UHL blog: http://www.urbanhomesteadersleague.org/blog/
The stand will take place on June 19th, 26th; July 17th, 31st; August 14th, 21st; September 11th, 25th; October 9th, 23rd, 30th. The market runs from 9a.m.-1pm.
I?m also looking for graphic designers to collaborate on the design of the broadsides, and a filmmaker to help document the project (and to make a short film about it). Send me an email if you?re interested in doing either of if you know someone who would be.
I think this is going to be a really fun and exciting project, and I hope all of you will participate!
Also coming up, on Saturday we?ll be having our one-year anniversary potluck and visioning meeting. This will be a great opportunity to hang out with lots of cool folks and to help make the UHL the best that it can be.
There are also lots of other great events coming up so make sure you keep checking the calendar.
all the best,
p.s. There was a great recent article in US News and World Report about ?modern homesteading.? It mentions the UHL and there?s a quote from yours truly.
