  • We won't be following the Asheville Beer City Meetup to all their events, but this one sounds creative & it is for a good cause!  Hendersonvillee craft-beer lovers, we have not forgotten you.  Hang out and meet some other lovers of brew- and laughter!  Let's go!

    As per their website:

    Hey folks,

Wanted to give you a heads-up on an event Jan. 8th at Southern Appalachian Brewery in Hendersonville: the inaugural Furry Friends Film Festival Fundraiser. It features a handful of short films produced by my friend, talented videographer/bartender Chris Nevel, and the feature film for the evening is "Gary Goes Gump." This fall, I ventured out on a six-week solo road trip across America and back, visiting numerous national parks and breweries along the way, and to memorialize the trip in a unique way, Chris and I are producing a comical and inspiring re-creation of the famous Forrest Gump running scene across America, since I am an avid runner and big fan of the movie. I purchased a GoPro camera for the trip, which takes amazing video, and was able to recruit people I met from around the world during my trip to not only help with the filming but also play various supporting roles in the film itself. The production will also include a few other Forrest Gump scenes related to the trip, such as some of the park bench scenes where Forrest tells his story (we filmed those outside the Historic Courthouse in Hendersonville before my trip in August). This is undoubtedly a craft-beer-loving Gump, and that is revealed in humorous ways throughout the film.

Should be pretty epic, and the Hendersonville Times-News is currently working on a big story to run in the paper about the film and the festival overall, in which all proceeds go to the Blue Ridge Humane Society. Chris' other short videos include a documentary of SAB's Andy Cubbin brewing a batch of Black Bear Stout.

Tickets are $10 per person, with beer/wine, food from Underground Baking Co. and various raffle tickets available for separate purchase. The event begins at 6:00 with a social hour, and ShowTime starts at 7:00. The program should run about an hour and a half. Tickets (will-call list) are available now at the brewery or at Wag! A Unique Pet Boutique in downtown Hendersonville; but if anyone can't make it down here before the event they can make arrangements with me. Seating is limited to 80 because of capacity issues at the brewery, and we're expecting tickets will go fast after the Times-News article comes out.

Urban Legends are arriving at 6:30 to give some of you more time to travel after work.  Feel free to arrive earlier if you choose. SAB is about 20 miles south of Asheville.

This looks really interesting. Do we pay the $10 at the door? Is anyone intersted in carpooling for the event?

Oh- and nobody has responded to the RSVP question as wanting to carpool yet, but I'll try to help coordinate. Thanks!

I had to UNRSVP when the Cornhole event filled up. Wayne has offered to Host for the evening. Thanks, Wayne!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
