This will be a nice, moderately paced, approximately 24 mile, all day bike ride.

Holy crap, what!?  That's right, 24 miles!!!  But it we'll do our best so that it doesn't seem so bad.  We'll add the expected and necessary UA twists by making impromptu stops along the way to sight see, take pictures, play beach volleyball, make sand castles, take a dip in the soup, have old fashioned, hippy style freak outs, and whatever else comes to mind.

We will have lunch in Hermosa before riding back.  Depending on what time we get back to our starting point, the ride will be capped off with dinner and/or drinks in one of the many pubs/restaurants in and around the Santa Monica Pier.

And yes, a bike is necessary for this event, but don't fret if you don't have one.  Many of our members have several bikes that they might be willing to let you use, specially if you offer to buy them a beer, so just post in the RSVP that you need a bike.  Worse comes to worse, you can rent one at the pier, right at our meeting location.  Don't know the price for rental but it can't compare to the price of missing out on the tons of fun we're going to have.  Give Sea Mist a call for rental information.  Several of our members used them last year and were satisfied with the price and service.

We will meet in front of Sea Mist Rentals at 9:30 AM and will ride out by 10:00AM.

Sea Mist Bike Rentals is located to the left of the Santa Monica Pier (if you're facing the pier) right on the board walk/bike path.

Parking can be tough in this area, so you can either pay to park in one of the adjacent parking lots or scout the residential neighborhoods for free parking.  Even if you have to park a few blocks away, you can just ride your bike to the pier

Mountain Bikes, 10 speeds, beach cruisers, hybrids, unicycles, all are suitable and welcome!

Flaking or changing your RSVP within 24 hours of the event, especially with a waitlist, is grounds for dismissal from this group. So don't sign up unless you really plan on making it.

Waitlist will be removed 48 hours prior to event date at which point it becomes first come first served.

Steve, don't be such a nerd. The bikes stay near us while we're on the beach, but we do need to bring locks and chains to lock them up while we're running lose in Hermosa. http://photos2.meetupstatic... http://photos3.meetupstatic... http://photos2.meetupstatic... http://www.meetup.com/Urban...

Who watches the bikes while everyone is playing at the beach? I'd rather rent if the bikes are gonna be laying around unguarded.

I got there late (called ahead), and ended up missing the group. made it to hrmosa though. great day, and it would've been better meeting everyone. next tim!
    •  My first event and it was a GREAT ride.. ooohweeee, what a riiide! Loved meeting some new cool kids too! Thanks to the AOs for coordinating this event!
    •  Y'all were fun and the day was educational too: I learned from Alicia that men apply too much sunscreen, Monica helped me to see that I am lazy and should cook for myself, and Shirley opened my eyes to Lucha Va Voom. Besides fun and learning, I worked up such an appetite that upon my return home I ate a chunk of tiramisu almost as big as my head.
    •  It was a great workout in a really nice day.
    •  Awesome ride during excellent weather... it was a perfect day to bike and I have always wanted to do that beach trail. It was great to meet many new people... well new to me because this was my first event. Thanks for organizing it. :)
    •  Great first half of the ride. Then took my bike in repair shop and lost the group. They didnt have any meetup point specified so I lost touch with the group and had lunch and second half of my adventure alone. Still a great day so made the best of it and checked out the eco fair in venice. Just a little disapointed with no agenda or phone number to get myself un-lost.
    •  Thanks Hiro and Chris for making my legs into Jello today. But I loved the ride. I'll definitely do it again.
    •  Top of my feet are sunburned, but I had an awesome time! Fun ride, nice people and a beautiful day at the beach.
    •  For someone who hasn't riden her bike in years, it kicked by butt, but it was well worth it! Great people, fun environment, and a perfect place to stop for a cold beer and snacks. It was a nice welcom to UA (my first event).
